These websites and apps cover myriads of science, art, and technology topics. They will teach you practically anything from making hummus to building apps in node.js. If you just want to see my top five picks, keep scrolling down.
5: Code Academy : Coders and programmers of the world unite! This app has starting to make a big splash in the tech community over the past year or two. The first thing Code Academy does is take you through the fundamentals of code, and then it moves on to other topics such as web design, statistics, databases, data visualization and more. It's informative and a lot of fun to go through. Code Academy also has a free course called "Beginner Coding Bootcamp."
4: Khan Academy : The Khan Academy is a free online resource for math and science education founded by Salman Khan. It teaches from every conceivable angle from chemistry to social sciences to computer science. Although the feedback from users has been mixed, it's a place where anyone can go to get the fundamentals of something new. An interesting fact is that Khan has said that he "started writing a blog because no one was teaching me anything in school." The free courses on Khan Academy will give you a good base knowledge of most subjects.
3: Treehugger : The Treehugger website and YouTube channel are two reasons why I take technology quite seriously. Treehugger is a website dedicated to sustainability and conservation. The site publishes hundreds of articles a week, covering current events and environmental issues in regards to climate change, consumerism and the use of natural resources. It also publishes articles on green products and technology, as well as new scientific studies related to the environment.
2: TechCrunch : If you're interested in startups and entrepreneurship, then TechCrunch is your new best friend. It's the bible for Silicon Valley insiders and people who want a sneak peak behind the scenes in the startup world. It publishes news, reviews, and analysis 24/7 on everything related to startups, tech and business. Another thing I love about TechCrunch is that they do a lot of research into their topics and they don't just provide opinions. They bring up good points and they make the reader think.
1: Popular Science : I know it may seem like a surprising number one, but it's just too good to pass up. Popular Science is one of the most viewed websites in tech and science. It covers everything from astronauts to rockets, car technology to alternative energy, space exploration and physics. Popular science articles are always funny and often awe-inspiring as well. Another great thing about Popular Science is that it always has new articles and content being published on a regular basis, which gives you something to look forward to.
